Mary's Cancer Support

This is Mary, aka my mom. She is a mother of 5 kids and a grandma to 9 kids! Mom is an outgoing person. She never stops. She is always one to put herself first before others. She works for Brookdale assisted living in Dodge City, Kansas and worked a part time job as a home health caregiver. Every month mom packs up her guitar and collaborates with some friends to provide free musical entertainment to the residents of Brookdale, as well as other assisted living facilities in Kansas such as Cherry Village and the Brookdale Assisted living facilities Great Bend Kansas. When I say she is outgoing, I would have to show you. For instance, she has an entire wall in her bedroom dedicated to marathon medals for supporting multiple causes. She will travel all the way to Missouri to run a marathon with her sister, as well as make trips to Kansas City to do the same. She is that person that will be first in line for a cause especially if it will help another in need. In December of 2015 Mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Even though the family was heartbroken, Mom did not let it ruin her spirit. She stepped up and said "I am going to fight this, and win." She has traveled to Hays Medical Center in Hays Kansas for every Chemo Treatment, as well as had generous treatment at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley, Kansas. Upon the day of the surgery (June 23, 2016), the Tumor was removed as well as a double mastectomy, however with some unfortunate news showing that cancer is still evident in her skin. Therefore more treatment is going to be required. They will need to remove more skin, retest and possibly have to do a skin graph. Mom is not one to ask for help, but we are going to help her whether she likes it or not. She has sold a vehicle to help pay for the treatment, and unfortunately is unable to work until she is healed. Her part time job had shut its doors therefore she had lost her part time job. She is out of Vacation and Sick Leave from her current full time job therefore the burden of bills have started with no outlook of going back to work anytime soon.
