David Hopkins, dad of 3 children, Dylan, Lydia and Sydney age 9 and wife to Nicki was given the devastating news that he had the most aggressive form of brain cancer last year.
He immediately had 90 per cent of the tumour removed and hoped that several rounds of chemotherapy and private immunotherapy would stop it progressing further.
However, in April an MRI revealed that it had returned in the same place and would require a craniotomy to remove it.
The 46 - year-old father-of-three was able to undergo it and leave hospital in time to celebrate his daughter Lydia's 21st birthday last week.
He had previously been on a pioneering course of treatment in Germany which creates personalised immune therapy, but was likely to cost as much as £150,000.
David said: “It’s been a lot harder mentally this time, and it’s a long road to recovery.
“It’s so difficult finding the balance on how to spend your time, whether you should be in treatment or enjoying your life and spending time with your family.
“I’m really hoping that people will find it in their hearts to donate – if 150,000 people each gave £1 each, that would be enough.”
The family are considering looking at other drugs that are available under private care which they hope will enable him to see his nine-year-old daughter grow up
More than £60,000 has been donated through a GoFundMe campaign so far, but this has now been spent on travel and the treatment costs.
David’s wife Nicki says: “It’s got to a point where we are desperate for fundraising to allow him to continue treatment. At one point, the money raised was down to just £500.
“Because the tumour had reoccurred, that rules out the course of chemotherapy he was previously on.
So now 9 of us Nicki, Lydia, Lynsey, Rio, Sky, Luke, Harry, George and Louis will do a parachute jump I hope this will raise more funds
Please help us keep going to Germany, currently the neo peptide vaccines are being developed specifically for Daves tumour but the 60k already raised has gone on previous treatment and costs for the vaccines. We need to raise more funds to be able to continue going to Germany and keep winning this battle to have more time with family than the statistics give.
