Help Musbah with medical expenses
In 2016, Gaza was in turmoil. Young people would go every day to the border between Gaza and Israel demonstrating in protest against the Israeli blockade.
Musbah (32 years old ) worked as a volunteered photographer in a local newspaper. He is married and has twins. He was assigned to take photos of the protests and to document the actions of the Israeli military against the protesters. Musbah knew that his job was hazardous and risky. But he has no choice but to do his assigned job. Musbah usually wears a vest with the word “Journalist” in big letters written on it. But he did not wear a bulletproof vest assuming that the Israeli soldiers will not shoot him since he was not a protester. Moreover, his employer did not provide him with a bulletproof vest.
On Saturday 03/31/2018, around 12:28 pm, Musbah and one accompanying journalist were shot by a sniper. There were both rushed to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. The accompanying journalist was declared dead. Fortunately, Musbah survived. Doctors found that Musbah was hit by ten shots in his stomach and legs. The damage to his body was severe and was beyond the expertise of physicians in Gaza who were mostly general practice doctors.
After staying 6 months in a government hospital, where patient care is free, his doctors recommended that he goes to Egypt and find specialists to do surgeries on his back, right leg to remove some of the bullets from his stomach.
Musbah received support from one of his cousins who live in Cairo where he stayed in his apartment until his cousin find the specialists that Musbah needs for his surgery in his right leg, stomach, and back.
Though Musbah lost his job, he received partial support from his past employer and this was good enough to cover some of his expenses in Egypt.
Back to Gaza, his situation has not improved and the surgeries were failed. His situation worsened and his doctors in Gaza recommended that he goes to Istanbul, Turkey to perform surgeries on his back, stomach, and his right leg. But this was an impossible thing to do for Musbah since he has no funds to pay for these surgeries in Istanbul. A preliminary estimate of the cost of his surgeries was $26,000.
Musbah was one of the favorite sons of his community and people like him for his social work and his contribution to the community. I found a couple of volunteers to sponsor him for a bank loan which he received.
In 2020, he flew to Istanbul and met with some surgeons at Central Hospital that were recommended by the doctors in Gaza. Musbah had a series of surgeries in his stomach, leg, and back. He stayed for a year at Central Hospital and finally the doctors released him on 12/14/2021. He was back in Gaza the next day.
Now he is feeling much better physically but not financially. He is in debt of $26,000 and has no means to pay the monthly payment, which amounts to $500.00. He got a job that pays him $250.00 a month. With a family of four, he needs all the $250.00 that he receives to feed his family.
You can help this young man and his two children by donating money to his funds. You may donate any amount as low as $10. Your contribution to Musbah’s fund would save him from becoming homeless as the bank will seize his wages.
