Friends,

Many of you are aware of the almost 8 month journey that Emmie, Peter and the girls have been on. Back in January a plumbing issue (which forced them to move out of their home) started a chain of events leading them to uncover some extremely extensive hidden damage in their home. Foundation, plumbing, electric, asbestos….and the list goes on. Needless to say it has been a very challenging, discouraging and outrageously expensive time. One consideration was to even walk away from their home and lose their investment totally. Weighing all the options it has made the most sense to stay and salvage what they have. Through this time, the four of them (and their dog Millie) have lived here with us in our basement. We are so thankful to have the space for them to be near their home as they are back and forth almost daily. The first several months were filled with an insane schedule of working at their jobs and hours working on their house. They have been amazing but it has been so exhausting for all of them. There have been some incredibly generous and loving friends who have helped in different ways and they are so very grateful. The project has come to a point where hiring workers to finish is our best option. We have had several friends and family suggest we set up a Gofundme account to help. Emmie took on a job at a daycare for the Summer and Peter is working overtime to help with the expenses but it is quite overwhelming. We are hopeful that this account will offset the huge costs they are taking on which already has been over $30,000 which they have secured through loans and credit cards and they are not done. Once the structure is sound (and they are getting there) there are so many finishing costs involved. One of the major expenses that has stalled the work on the house is a plumbing job. Uncovering some very shoddy work has caused the plumbing in the entire house (all the way to the street) to need replacing.  Some of that work has been done but the funds have run out.

When the plumbing has been completed (along with some electrical work) they will be able to move back in and much of the remaining work can be done by Peter in his “spare” time.

This is a young, strong, resilient family who has overcome one disappointment after another in the restoration of this house but they have come to a point where they really need a boost beyond what they can muster up. Thank you for considering supporting them through this time.  Every little bit will help. If you know Peter and Emmie at all, you know that any help received will be payed forward the first chance they get.
