Hello friends and family,
Some of you may or may not know this but I have been living in the United States for 18 years now, as an undocumented immigrant. I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and I came to the US when I was 8 years old in August 2002.
In June 2012, President Barack Obama launched DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) which is a policy that protects some individuals from deportation if they arrived in this country as children. Though DACA does not provide official legal status or a pathway to citizenship to individuals like myself, it does allow us to be “lawfully present” without the threat of deportation and apply for a driver’s license and work permit. Unfortunately, this comes at a time in our political climate when the Trump administration is threatening to end DACA. Therefore, I decided to submit an early renewal application which costs: $495 and is currently pending approval. My current work permit expires in September 2020 and if approved, I will be allowed to legally work in the country for another two years.
Therefore, while I wait for a decision on my work permit renewal, Isaiah and I have had to seek different avenues to adjust my status so that I can become a permanent resident. Now that we have been married for over a year, we have decided to start talking with various immigration lawyers about our situation and we have been informed that we qualify for an adjustment of status, meaning that Isaiah can petition for me and at the same time I can apply for a green card.
All of this is occurring during a time when I will be going back to school in the fall for my Master's in Counseling (Applied Behavioral Analysis) over at CSULA and we cannot afford to take the time to save the funds necessary to submit both of our applications. We understand that this year has been exceptionally difficult for everyone due to COVID-19 but we would appreciate any help you can give! No donation is too small. We're blessed to have a supportive network of friends and family and we're looking forward to sharing more exciting news with you all in the months to come.
Thank you for donating and for taking the time to read our story!
Sincerely,
Victor Solano-Griffith
