Prayers for Lindsey
Many of you are aware that Lindsey has had a rough past 4 weeks, it started with Covid, then she was admitted into Scott & White hospital with double pneumonia and kidney failure. After being on strong antibiotics her kidneys improved and she was doing well. On Friday afternoon, she experienced a migraine like never before. They started running lots of test, CT scans to rule out a stroke, EKGs to rule out heart attack, blood work, and started giving morphine, etc. They finally got her stable. Her nurse called to explain what had happened. That night they noticed the slurring of her words. The nurse contacted her doctor, he ordered a Neuro exams every two hours and an MRI the following morning.
Saturday morning, the MRI results showed her heart had thrown a blood clot to her brain which initiated many small strokes. Her doctor contacted the family and said she needed to be flown to Scott & White in Temple to their Neuro/ICU ASAP. Upon arrival they started assessing her and started more tests. She was experiencing slurring in her voice, confusion, double vision, short term memory loss, and less control in her right limbs.
She had a wonderful team of physicians taking care of her. Doing lots of test daily for comparison to see changes in her brain. Her brain experienced swelling daily for about 6 days then finally began to decrease on day 7.
She had 8 clots in her brain and where they were located surgery was not an option. For 7 days while she was in ICU... we prayed, and prayed, and prayed more that the swelling and water on her brain would decrease and no new clots would happen.
Her doctors explained, if all goes well. She will need lots of therapy, probably months. They felt with her being so young she should make a complete recovery, but it would me just take time.
Finally, she was doing well and able to be moved to the stroke floor. She began physical and occupational therapy...things were headed in the right direction even scheduled to come home.
Then on 4/21, Lindsey‘s heart through another clot, which caused ANOTHER stroke. The rapid response team was paged. They immediately started tests on her, and about 2 hrs later they had her into surgery. Grateful, this clot was in a location where it could be removed.
At 8:20pm, the surgeon called and said THEY GOT THE CLOT!!!!!!!!!! Praise God!! She did have a massive stroke. At that time, they weren’t sure if they were able to reverse anything...the following 24 hours were critical. Within a few hours, it showed the surgery was a huge success. Her deficits were very minimal at that point!!! Another miracle from Our Heavenly Father.
After more days in ICU she was able to be moved back to the stroke floor and the kids were finally able to go see their momma after almost 3 weeks of being apart. Lots of happy tears that day.
25 days in the hospital, 10 of those were in ICU. Careflighted from Scott and White College Station to Temple. Brain surgery, and having a team of surgeons, Neuro specialist, interns and nurses. She’s a walking MIRACLE! But, none of this would have been successful without God‘s healing hand over her. We give Him ALL the glory!
This has been a journey...it’s her story and God allowed it for a reason. We saw miracles happen right in front of our eyes and the power of prayer was amazing to be a part of too.
This next chapter begins with occupational and physical therapy. She’ll be walking with a walker for a little while, until her balance and coordination improves.
The family expresses, they will never be able to show how grateful they are for the prayers, love, and support everyone has blessed them with. Let’s continue to praise God for His perfect timing and how mighty He is!
Michael and Lindsey were in the process of switching insurances for themselves. The kids were covered, but she and Michael were not. They never dreamed this would happen especially not until their new policy was in effect. She will have many more test to do in the near future. Lots of follow up appointments, physical and occupational therapy and medication that is extremely expensive.
Many have asked to help and suggested this account be created. If you feel lead to contribute anything...it would greatly be appreciated!
