I would like to express the honor of being selected as a delegate. As a naturalized citizen I value our American system. I love the fact that I can say we are the only nation that allows people not native to it's land to become part of it's fabric and actually encourages it so that we may grow and diversify as a nation.
When I first became a citizen I was excited that I could vote of my own free will and of my heart. In my former homeland we could vote but there was only one party, the Communist Party, and one candidate, Nicolae Ceaucescu. I have fulfilled my voting duty as a citizen. Later I was selected to be on a jury. While others bemoan the jury notification I was happy to be part of the process. Just last year I made an unsuccessful bid for school committee and learned the hard work to get that going.
You see for me being a delegate means the world, not just me but also for my dad and many other legal immigrants. Here I am a former political and religious refuge that immigrated legally into this great nation and have been given the opportunity to be a delegate to take your vote to Cleveland and represent the 9th congressional district in order to select the next president of the United States. If my father, who fought communism in Communist Romania, could see me now.
I may not have the impressive resumes as the other people asking for help to the get to Cleveland but I do believe I will do the job with complete and utter dedication to the process and the constitution.
