“My basement wall collapsed-I won’t be into work”
Donation protected
In early March 2021, I received a call from my friend Darin Sauder letting me know he would not be into work that day. I could tell Darin was in distress from the sound of his voice, Darin then shared with me what had happened that morning. Darin had went down into his basement that morning before work and discovered that the East exterior basement wall had collapsed He said that he struggled to open the bedroom door because of the huge pile of dirt and stone that had caved in. In disbelief, he stood there looking at the neighbor’s house from inside the basement bedroom. Luckily, neither Rachel or Darin were harmed because the wall that caved in is the wall directly below their master bedroom. As if that wasn’t devastating enough, Darin and his wife, Rachel, spent the next few days going back and forth with their insurance company. Ultimately, they’ve been told that insurance cannot do anything to help them with the cost of this unforeseen and unfortunate situation they’ve been thrown into dealing with. In the last month, the Sauders have completely gutted their basement and hauled everything out in preparation to make their basement (and home in general) safe again. In early May, their house will be lifted and an entirely new basement will be put underneath, which was recommended due to the state of the other exterior walls. This is a huge expense that they weren’t prepared for. The Sauders bought their house nearly 4 years ago at the ages of 22 and 23 from Darin’s late grandmother and have worked to make it their home. The way it sounds, there aren’t many options from the bank that would be feasible. From what I know about Darin and Rachel, they are not ones to ask or beg for help. I’ve had many conversations with Darin in the last few weeks where he just seems lost as to how to get through this crazy situation financially. Any contributions you can spare to help this wonderful young family will truly be a blessing to such a unique and devastating circumstance that no one could have saw coming.
