We never expected to be asking for assistance with a funeral of a 10 year old family member. We never expected the need to be planning one so soon.
Isaiah Roger Collins was born September 23, 2010. No one knew the battles he would face. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Kayla, his mom, spent years following every thing the doctors advised. He had multiple surgeries, treatments, injections, months in cast, and that is the tip of the iceberg. While going through all the treatments to decrease his severe spasticity, he began having seizures.
A single mom, Kayla, did not hesitate to encourage him to do the best he could every day. Isaiah required extensive care but was not ever defined by his disabilities. Isaiah was going to live a life as normal as possible with the help of his family.
I wish you could have met him. His smile and laugh would warm your heart. You would have just melted and fallen in love. Isaiah fell in love with every animal he met. Though he couldn’t speak, his eyes and face would light up.
Isaiah had several types of seizures. He was rushed to the ER for the more severe long lasting Grand Mal seizures.
On Thursday, his mother, Kayla, went to his room to get him up for his usual day of activity. Isaiah had been homeschooled since COVID began. Kayla had no idea that Thursday morning would forever change her life. Nothing would ever be the same again.
At 10 years of age, Isaiah lost his life due to a seizure. Kayla lost her son. Unexpectedly and sudden. Would you be prepared for such an event? Kayla was not. No one ever expects to lose a 10 year old. Kayla is a single mom doing everything she can every day for her son who required most of her time and her daughter. Was she prepared? No. She had no life insurance. Kayla never imagined this day would come.
How can we help? There’s nothing that will eliminate her grief? There’s nothing that will stop her from waking up and looking for him. There’s nothing that we can do to help her get used to a life without her son.
What can we help her with? We can help her with the expenses that are upcoming for his funeral service. You can assist with the cost. The grief is paralyzing. If you could consider giving something to help her with the funeral expenses, it would be appreciated. You would be helping the only way you can at this time.
Services are not yet planned as he was young and an autopsy was required. Please remember the Myers family in your prayers and thoughts as losing a child is unimaginable.
