On the morning of December 18th I received a devastating message from my dear friends Max and Nat informing me that the building next to theirs burned down and that unfortunately their apartment caught fire as well. To make matters worse, the tenant next door had purposely set the building on fire, putting all his neighbors in harms ways. Max, Nat and Rio are safe and this is what matters most. However they have lost everything - the place they once called home and most of their belongings. In times like these we all need to come together and help each other. Max and Nat have helped a lot of us countless times and now it's our turn to give back. Any contribution helps to get them started again and back into a warm home as soon as possible.
Here is a little bit more directly from Max and Nat:
On the night of December 17th, Maxime and I left our home to enjoy a night out at his work holiday party, we never thought that would be the last night we would get to call it our home. Our apartment caught fire around 3am as a result of an angry evicted tenant who lived in the building next door, and set fire to his place, causing it to spread into our apartment as well. Thankfully none of us, including Maxime's son Rio, were home at the time.
Thanks to an overwhelming amount of support from our family and friends we have temporary solutions for places to stay but we will need to find a new place to call home soon - especially for Rio.
We managed to salvage a few things, however we are still in need of daily neccessities, furniture, bedding etc.
We know the Holidays are an expensive time for everyone and we are grateful for anything you can spare.
Thank you to everyone that has helped us and reached out to us in this difficult time.
