Doug Williams' Medical Expenses

This is Lisa Williams.  As many of you know my younger brother, Don Douglas Williams' Jr.  has been deathly ill for three weeks now.  He was diagnosed at Kaiser with terminal Lkkemia AML.  After two weeks Kaiser sent him home to my sister Wendy's house for hospice care.  Kaiser delivered all of the hospital equipment and sent Doug by ambulance to live out his final days with his family.  Doug was NOT a Kaiser patient, it was just the closest ER to his home when he suddenly began to feel ill.

Doug is retired from the US Army after serving 22 years.  He beleived that he did not have medical insurance.  Doug has been married for 21 years to Denise.  Unfortunately, they have been estranged for the past two years.  When learning that Doug was going to die she came to Portland to help the family with Doug through hospice.  She also indicated that she had Doug still insured through her insurance.  When the insurance was discovered a call was received that Doug's hospice care had to be switched from Kaiser to the new insurance.  The new provider went through St. Vincent's hospital.  It is customary for the new proider to review the patient records.   Upon review the new Dr's called immediately to inform the family that they truly belieed they could treat his cancer, and that he should NOT e in hospice.  They quickly sent an ambulance to pick Doug up and took him to the Oncology ward of the hospital.  Doug is now on a very aggressive chemo drug for the next seven days.  He is doing better and although VERY confused he is FIGHTING HARD for his life.  The road to possile recovery is long and full of possible devestating side effects.

This is a miracle!  The sad news is that there are now co-pays and expenses to pay.  Doug is not being paid while off work, and receives only a SMALL pension from the Army.  His wife is also NOT being paid while she is off work to help care for Doug.  It is very hard to ask for your help, but we see no other way to make sure his monthly bills get paid and his out of pocket expenses are paid.  If you can help we would be eternally grateful!  There is no amount that is too small.  If you find that you cannot help with a donation prayers are needed as well.

The family knows that this is a LONG road, and may still result in us losing him.  We will post updates when we get them.   We appricate any financial help you can proide to Doug and ANY prayers for him as well.

Thank you from the family and friends of Doug!  We are so thankful for ANYTHING you can do to help.

With love and appreciation.
