In celebration of the life of Judy Alvero

Donation protected

Today my beautiful son-in-law Jonel very suddenly lost his father. Judy at 60 years young came into contact with a mains power line near his home in Iloilo, Philippines. He got stuck being electrocuted for quite some time before services in the Philippines were able to shut the power off and remove his body. He was transported to a hospital but unfortunately after extended revival attempts Judy was pronounced dead leaving his loving wife Nela, his children Jonel, Cristina, Jennel and Joel, their partners Tina and James, and his beloved grandchildren Charlie, Archie, Mary Jasmine and Evie in shock. You can imagine such a death is quite traumatic, especially for his loved ones to see and comprehend.

Such a sudden tragedy leaves a hole in the hearts of many, but at such a time with everything going on with COVID it also leaves a significant financial burden. The hospital won’t release Judy’s body for the family to pay their respects without a significant payment, as this is the way it works in their country. Unfortunately this financial burden and many others fall onto Tina and Jonel, as the only family members now capable to pay outstanding hospital bills, funeral expenses, and support the family now that their main earner has passed. On top of this they need to maintain their own young family, which is more responsibility than most their age will face. It breaks my heart that at a time like this when Jonel, Tina and family cannot go back to the Philippines to grieve with loved ones and pay their respects they are suddenly lumped with this burden as well.

I’m putting out a call for anyone who has any means to help. Anything we can raise will help them get through this with less stress in this time of tragedy. I’m sure many of you remember how they raised money last year during covid for families living in the Philippines who were struggling with starvation... Jonel and Tina have always balanced helping their Filipino family and friends whilst building up their own, and I would love to be able to help make this easier and show them some of the generosity they have shown others.
