Dear Family and Friends,
Over the last few months Lance (my brother) has had an area on his abdomen that he thought was a hernia. After much discussion Dad and I convinced Lance that he needed to get to a doctor. What the doctor has told us has left us heartbroken. Lance has terminal cancer. It looks like it started as colon cancer and has spread to his lungs, liver and lymphatic system. The doctor has offered little hope in slowing the cancer down. He used grim as the word to describe Lance’s condition. His liver now has a tumor that has encased his entire stomach area. Which has left it very difficult for Lance to walk or to lay flat.
As many of you know Lance is my dad’s right hand. He moved in with Dad to help care for mom while she was battling her cancer. After mom lost her battle to cancer and went home to be with Jesus Lance stayed to help dad. He does most of the cleaning and cooking and is one of the main caregivers of my niece, nephew and thirteen year old cousin. Our whole family gets together for Sunday dinner almost every Sunday where Lance makes his famous Mac and Cheese for Wyatt and Kate. We are all so very close. It’s hard for me to imagine what life will be like without him. And as much as I don’t want to believe what is taking place I have to realize that Lance’s battle is not for a cure but a battle of time.
I was raised in a family that had a strong work ethic. If you didn’t have the money then you did without. Which is one the reasons it took Lance so long to go to the doctor. He didn’t have insurance and didn’t want to create a large bill that he couldn’t pay for. However, I am happy to report that he was able to get on the HIP program that will help with most of his medical bills. With all that is happening comes the realization that Lance also did not have life insurance. As you can imagine this is causing a great deal of stress on Dad. As his daughter I wish I could fix all of it and take his pain away. Our family will do our best but we just do not have the resources that it will take. Many of you have asked how you can help. It is with humbleness and gratitude that I am setting up GoFund Me account as a way for friends and family to help in a practical way. We thank you for every prayer you send up on our behalf. There is no way we could get through all of this without knowing God and without the love of friends and family.
Many blessings,
