For those who know Arlo, you already know how incredibly sweet he is and how much he means to us because he’s truly the heart of our home. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him instantly. One evening after work, while running and playing at the park with another dog, Arlo suddenly tore his CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament). And now, our sweet bub needs surgery to be able to walk and play again without pain.

After consulting with our vet and a specialist, the only real option to give Arlo a chance at a full, pain-free life again is surgery, specifically Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery. It is definitely a major procedure, but it has a very high success rate, and it would allow Arlo to regain his ability to run, play, and live his life without constant pain.

The cost of the surgery, pre-op tests, post-op care, and recovery medications is estimated to be over $9,000 (we’ll update with the exact amount as soon as possible). This is not including the vet visits we’ve already had to pay before seeing the specialist. As much as we wish we could cover this ourselves, the reality is, we simply can’t afford it. Like many families, we’re doing our best to get by right now, but this unexpected medical expense is far beyond what we can manage on our own.

We wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t urgent and everyday that goes by without the surgery increases Arlo’s risk of permanent joint damage and severe arthritis. And we’re told that often dogs often overcompensate and end up injuring their other knee if they don’t get the surgery asap.
