Guillermo was a student in my 4th grade class last year. He was loud, silly, and sometimes challenging, but I grew very fond of him.
In May, the family suffered the unexpected and tragic loss of Guillermo's 19 year old brother. The medical and funeral costs for that situation are outrageous.
Since Guillermo doesn't have any siblings that are children, I wanted to give him a fun-filled summer in a positive environment. His mother and I worked out a plan for us to spend a couple days a week together - all summer. Thankfully, our first two weeks were action-packed and fulfilling. We went kayaking, swimming, to SkyZone, played sports, went to the beach, Water Country USA, and toured DC...etc. Unfortunately, the excitement has been cut off early because Guillermo was run over by a car last weekend. He will be okay, but he has a broken femur on one leg, and a broken ankle on the other. He has had emergency surgery, and has spent multiple nights in the hospital. In addition to pain and suffering, the family is now facing extensive medical bills. Both of Guillermo's parents are hardworking and caring people, but their jobs simply don't offer health insurance. I want to do what I can to help the family, and to keep their spirits high. They've really had a rough couple of months.
I've always wanted to ask for money for my student loans, but have known better...haha. For the first time, I'm reaching out for help for good people who truly deserve it. If I could play the Sarah McLachlan song (from that commercial) as you read this, I would. Just kidding. Anyway, any assistance would be very much appreciated - more than words can express. Thank you for reading! Much love to all.
