Hi everyone!
My name is Rosa... known to you probably as the crazy dog lady
On Sunday 4/25/21 me and my family decided it would be a great day to take the kids and two of our dogs out to Fiesta Island and spend a few hours of fun.
That plan soured very quickly as we were still taking our stuff out of the car. As usually we let the dogs run and have fun... well that changed very quickly as I recalled our greyhound Marshall back to us. He came running full speed (if you didn’t know, greyhounds can reach speeds of up to 45mph) and run into our 10 years old daughter who went up flying up in the air and our life was shattered at that second.
Camila, our daughter, landed on her back after being sent up flying into the air (she is ok physically)... and our sweet boy was airborne and then tumbled many feet away into the sand making the worst noises that not even in my 12 years as a veterinary technician I have heard.
I went to assist him only to realize his rear left leg was just hanging off like it was made out of gelatin. And just like that: snap! Broken leg and the nightmare of any pet parent: now what?!
We drive to the Veterinary specialty Hospital where he got rushed in and we now had to face the options of surgical repair, potential of bone cancer and/or amputation of the leg. He is 79 pounds and has a hard time getting up already so amputation is not the best option. We have chosen to surgically repair the leg and wait for pathology results to rule out cancer.
This has left our family with an 8k bill (after my 25% professional discount).
I have never thought I would ever have to start a go fundme for anything else before... even though times are trying we have always managed to pull through but this took us off guard and it’s been devastating.
Please share the link and if you have it in your heart and your pocket allows you, donate to help us ease this burden. We will be more than grateful for it!
Also, pretty please: get pet insurance! We didn’t have one because I thought that with my line of work I would have everything covered. Boy was I wrong! Accidents like this need specialist care and life saving measures and all these come with a very high price tag and you find yourself in the spot of making a decision that could literally be life or death for our sweet beloved pets.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Marshall and our family appreciate your time and effort.
