Asha-India trip 2016
Donation protected
Interesting times are ahead for me which I want to share with you...
In late October I will be travelling to India as part of a volunteer team from the Twickenham area. We will be spending ten days with the Indian NGO Asha - asha-india.org serving in one of the 60 slum colonies of Delhi.
I am the oldest member on the team - but I am never too old for a new adventure!
I am prepared for it to be an emotional time for the following two main reasons:
Firstly, New Delhi is my birthplace and I will be returning for the first time since I left in 1945 at the age of 6 months.
Secondly, it will be a sharp culture shock as well as a heart tearing experience as I engage with those living in such appalling conditions.
We as a team aim to bring hope, love and encouragement as we spend time with individuals and groups of slum dwellers, listen to their stories and run workshops with the children and young people. I will be using my artistic gifting to bring colour - this will be fun!
The cost of the trip to each team member is in the order of £2,000. This includes a contribution towards a team donation of a minimum of £5,000 to cover the cost of the project that we will undertake in order to help provide essential improvements to the infrastructure of the slum community clinic and basic provisions for the slum children's resource centre housed within it.
This is my first attempt at fundraising so here goes... no donation is too small. In 2015 £12,300 was raised and in 2014 £10,000.
I thank you in advance for the part you are willing to play to help those who live in one of the worst environments in the world.
