Support During a Tough Time

A lot of you have been apart of Donovan’s liver journey since first discovering cancer when he was 5 months old in 2020.

Since transplant we have been trying to give him as normal a life as possible for an active toddler. We had some bumps on the road but recently more so, this has honestly been the hardest year since he received his transplant.

Donovan has been sick often and we’ve had 5 hospital stays since December. All of those illnesses and virus he picked up unfortunately (they think) activated a bad one called CMV which is really harmful to transplant patients.

Donovan had a biopsy yesterday and results show his liver is rejecting due to all his viruses and now CMV.

His biopsy shows it’s not a small rejection but a moderate one and we are honestly not sure how long he will need IV steroids and other meds to reverse this. He will get a PICC line inserted soon for long term medication infusions. Having this line is also makes him higher risk for infection and requires a lot of care and close monitoring.

Last rejection we were there for over a week. This unfortunately leads to a lot of income loss. Even in the months following this rejection, Donovan has been sick more times than we can count. We’ve been home a lot this year which has significantly affected everything in our lives.
