On Friday the 16th, Ivy was rushed to Arvada Animal Urgent care where she was diagnosed with parvo. She had stopped eating and was now throwing up. Unfortunately, this isn’t an uncommon diagnosis for a res dog. Lately every transport we take in from Navajo Nation has one or two parvo cases. We think that due to COVID there were fewer animal vaccination clinics available for people to get low cost/free vaccines and now the animals pay the price. Our rescue partner there (who is doing incredible work) is consistently getting calls about sick puppies needing care but with how contagious parvo is and how expensive treatment is it’s hard to know where to take them.
Ivy and her sister were dumped on the side of the road on the reservation. Maybe it was because she was sick. Maybe they had a littermate who died of parvo and the people didn’t know what to do or couldn’t afford the care. We will never know. What we do know is that Ivy is lucky. Lucky to have received medical care and make it out the other side. Her ER bill was $200 and her hospitalization at Red Rocks Animal Clinic was $2250. We don’t typically ask for help covering parvo cases but with the volume we have had recently, and those waiting for care, we hope you’ll consider helping us cover Ivy’s bill. Anything helps, thank you!
