Hello Everyone,
Many of you know and love my brother Jim. Like my Mom, Ruth,( who passed away from complications of colon cancer in 2010) Jim has always been the type of person that will do anything for anyone and give someone in need the shirt off his back, even if it’s his last one. He’s the most kind hearted and generous person I know. I am reaching out to you all as now he needs some help.
In 2015, Jim was diagnosed at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital with Rectal Cancer. The tumor that was found was about 4” long and Jim had lost so much blood, his doctor told me it was life or death to get him to the hospital that day.
Since the diagnosis, he has undergone 8 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to shrink the tumor enough so it could be surgically removed. The tumor was very low with a high chance of Jim having an ostomy bag for the rest of his life. We found the best colo-rectal surgeon who had a high rate of success in cases such as his. The surgeon was hopeful but would not know until the surgery if it would be temporary or permanent. Because Jim is only 45, he said he was going to do everything he could during surgery to hopefully have it be temporary. Fortunately during that surgery in April, Jim’s surgeon was able to remove the tumor in a way that he would be able to put my brother back together after everything heals. He would not have the bag permanently! Jim is currently undergoing 4 months of Chemotherapy treatments to kill any cancer cells that may have lingered. Once Chemo is over, they will give his body a few months to heal before the surgery to reconnect Jim and put him back together.
Jim was unable to work for months before his diagnosis because he would pass out at any given time and could not stand or sit for any period of time, obviously having a severe impact on his financial stability over this time and beyond. Additionally, Jim will be losing his home in a short period of time. Among all this upheaval and uncertainty for Jim, I am raising money to help him with bills and expenses.
As well as being Ruth Ruhland’s son and my brother, you may also know Jim as the son of Bob Ruhland and the brother of Rob (Wendy) & Tom (Nora) Ruhland.
I’m asking that you take a moment and pray for Jim and to find it in your hearts to donate to Jim to get him through this difficult time and get him back on his feet .
Thank you so much!
Lynda Ruhland
