Please read this story -Help Gus Get His Operation

Hi friends,

Most of you know that I volunteer at a wildlife rescue.  I got a text yesterday from someone that a small white dog had gotten hit by a car and needed help.  South Bay Wildlife Rehab can’t take in domestic animals.  I knew that if I waited for another rescue group to help that he might not still be able to be found or maybe even dead by then.

I found him crouching in a strip mall off of MLK just south of downtown LA. He let me get him without even a snarl! I thought he was probably in shock from the impact of the car.

He cried and yelped everywhere I touched him to pick him up but we made it into the car and headed straight for the VCA Emergency Animal Hospital in Lawndale.  I noticed he had a lot of mats (all his hair!) and his spine was protruding sharply (i.e. he hadn't been eating for a while).

Long story short - the vet examined and treated him.  But, it wasn't because a car hit him.  HE HAD BEEN ATTACKED BY A  LARGE DOG/S AND HAD DEEP BITE WOUNDS ALL OVER HIM.  Some of the wounds were older than others leading the vet and me to believe that he may have been (i.e. probably was) 'bait' for dog fight training.  He was microchipped but it wasn't registered so we can't track the owner but maybe the dog was stolen originally then either escaped or was discarded.

Gus is seriously the sweetest dog.  He hasn't tried to bite us a single time, even though I've been treating his wounds and cutting his mats.  He has been so grateful for our help!  He is limping on two of his legs and can't walk to even go to the bathroom by himself.  I was up all night while helping him to eat and talking him through nightmares and pain from re-opening and cleaning wounds.

The first vet bill was $905.  He needs surgery next week to clean up older, infected wounds and try to fix the muscle tissue that was destroyed and keeps him from walking.  The estimate is between $2,500 and $3,300.  PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING  - IT WILL ALL GO TO HELP HIM!  This poor little guy has already been through so much.  If we can get his surgery performed then I can find an awesome family for him! (that'll be my next communication with you).  If he doesn't get the surgery, he will most likely never be able to walk and, as he's fairly young, this would be an immense tragedy.  Especially after he was taken from his family, put through such a horrific experience at the hands of 'people', and left to die on the streets.

We need the funds by next Wednesday 4/21/2021.  PLEASE ALSO SHARE THIS WITH FRIENDS.

Thank you! I sincerely, truly appreciate it.
