This fund is to support the expenses of the - End Homelessness in California - A Rally of Love to Sacramento
A 2 Mile Long Convoy of over 100 Vehicles Driving 385 Miles from Los Angeles to Sacramento on Saturday, the 30th of July, 2016.
Our Homeless Angelenos need our help. Not just our Homeless Angelenos, but everyone who’s experiencing homelessness throughout California.
In a rapidly worsening situation, there have been repeated calls to our Governor Jerry Brown to Declare an Emergency on Homelessness in LA and other cities. Unfortunately, he is vehemently refusing to do so.
Not only would Statewide Emergency Declaration allow our cities to receive more federal funds, this would also cut bureaucratic red tape that delays the building of Housing and Shelters and it will also give us immediate access to California’s $500 Million Economic Uncertainty Fund. This will help us fund Housing and Shelter projects until measures like the $1.2Billion Bond in LA go into effect. Which( The Bond or a new tax) could take up to 2 years to be ready to access. This is why it is so important that we demand Governor Brown to Declare an Emergency on Homelessness in California.
We are also asking that he, Governor Brown and the State Assembly of California support one of the following: The Millionaire Tax, the $1.2Billion Bond, the Parcel tax or the Marijuana tax to help fund the fight against Homelessness. We are facing a Crisis in California. We need our Governor to treat this as such and offer immediate and extraordinary action.
We are asking you, all Californians, from the San Diego County, Orange, San Bernadino, Imperial and Riverside County to join us in our Procession to Sacramento, and for all our northernmost Counties in California to Join us at 5.00pm in front of the California State Capitol to Rally for an End to Homelessness in our State!
We will start in Los Angeles at 8.00am on Saturday the 30th of July, 2016. We will drive together in one Procession with flags representing our Cities and Counties until we get to the Sacramento State Capitol to Rally from 5.00pm till 6.30pm. We will be bringing with us the Petition launched by the LA County Homeless Initiative and letters written individually by us to Governor Brown asking him to Declare an Emergency. During our Rally we will leave 4 actual tents used by our Homeless Angelenos in front of the Capitol Building.
This fund will finance the promotion, gas expenses, expenses for equipment rentals, parking fees, snakcs and drinks for our participants, promotional material for our march such as flags, banners and signs, among other incidental expenses. We will release full receipts of every expense funded through this fund.
We need your help. Donate what you can! Anything is appreciated.
Thank you,
Mel Tillekeratne and Claudia Perez
