Thank you ALL that donated. Hali Flickinger advances to semifinal in Olympic debut. She easily advanced to tonight's semifinals, set for 9:37 p.m on NBC. The top 16 swimmers will compete in the semis. And the top eight semifinalists advance to Wednesday night's primetime final.
“I've been working so hard for this! The amount of training and hard work that I've put in. And I know every athlete says that- but the grind we put in EVERY SINGLE DAY! These are the moments we do it for!" - Hali Flickinger, former York YMCA standout and University of Georgia Bulldog swimmer, just moments after clinching her spot to compete in the in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in the 200m Fly.
Hali had one dream since she began to swim at age 7 with the Spring Grove Swim Club. To compete in the Olympic Games and that dream came true on the evening of June 30, 2016. Words cannot begin to describe this extraordinary woman. Her dedication to her sport is immeasurable. Flickinger will compete in the Woman's 200m Butterfly on Tuesday, Aug. 9 in Rio.
With the permission of the family we've immediately started our efforts to raise funds to help send her parents (Doug and Lea) of Spring Grove, PA see their daughter compete in the Games. The journey to Rio has been long and challenging and will be very costly. Hali will be the first York County, PA swimmer to complete in the Olympic Games since Whitney Metzler competed in the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
Thank you so much for your help. The Flickinger family truly appreciates your generosity. No gift is too small because every little bit will help Doug and Lea see their daughter's dream come true.
