Nate’s Battle with Cancer: The Journey of the Wandering Mustard Seed

Manuel Nathaniel (Nate) Santiago was born on December 18^th, 1980 in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He moved to Philadelphia in 1990, when his father was called to Pastor a church. In Philadelphia, Nate fell in love and married his wife, Yarized in 2007. A year later they had their first child, Joseph.   A few years later their second child, Lucas was born. Nate is a God-fearing man that loves to spend time with his wife and children. 

On February 27, 2021, after a few trips to the hospital, he received a life changing diagnosis that would turn out to be stage 3 adenocarcinoma (anal cancer). This is an aggressive form of Colon Cancer. This news would now drastically change their lives. Nate eventually lost his job due to constant hospital visits and unforeseen medical/physical conditions. Now all of the household responsibilities fall on the shoulders of his wife, who is now balancing home and work. Yet, they will keep the faith, and trust God through this hardship.

The Bible states in Matthew 17:20, “...if you have faith like a seed of a mustard, you tell the mountain to move from here to there, and it will move...nothing will be impossible for you.” After crying out to God to speak to him in secret, he was given a small mustard seed by his mom. WOW-The journey of this faithful mustard seed, and God’s promises are never failing. Landing thousands of miles away, into the hands of a man calling out to God for a MIRACLE and a word. Instantly, he cried and rejoiced in the Lord with thanksgiving for answering his prayer. God’s answer to him… “nothing would be impossible.” He is challenging Nate to move mountains with his faith.
