Asking for your help to keep to keep a roof over our family

My family is myself , my room mate a 70 something year old gentleman and our two cats Shamus and Boots

I am doing this because I will be nearly out of savings in November . I have been seeking employment for over a year but so far I have only been able to find very part time work cleaning and ushering at sports and concert events for a local university . When the crew that I work with receives assignments I am given an opportunity to work one or more of those assignments depending on what is offered . if I am lucky I will get a few hours in a week . Some weeks there is nothing. In the meantime I am seeking more employment opportunities to supplement my income but running into dead ends almost every where .

My rent was doubled in January and as much as I wanted to find a less expensive dwelling I did not have the means to do so. I do have a room mate , a gentleman in his 70's who is on a very limited income himself and he pays what he can toward rent and utilities but I pay the majority . I allow this because before him I had a steady run of bad luck with room mates due to drug or alcohol issues , lack of rent and personality issues . I have not had that with my current roomie , he has been more than a roomie he has been a good friend too and has always been more than honest with me and consistent with rent . I could never think of trying to replace him .

I retired in 2021 after 25 years in retail due to physical and emotional issues . I didn't misuse my retirement funds but I didn't leave them in my retirement accounts either . Instead of investing them I took them and have been living on them since . I know I should have looked into investing or whatever to make them grow but I have never had a head for that sort of thing . When I decided to look for new work again I had no idea it would be so hard to find something and I would be able to grow my savings again . I am finally getting that chance again since the company I work for has recently offered me a chance to invest in a 401 K but I know it will not be enough at least for awhile and so I go on looking for something more substantial .

In the mean time my every day , starting with when I get up in the morning to when i go to sleep at night is filled with worry . I am so afraid of going homeless and losing the work I do have and losing the medical care I have for my heart condition . I want to keep working and rebuild my life and make things a little easier for when I truly can retire .
