Update: July 18, 2021
July 13, 2021
Charlie was taken to the ER this past weekend and they are sending him home to do home hospice. Our friend is losing his battle against cancer. I’m hoping there’s some of you out there that would still like to donate to the go fund me account. Roni can use whatever financial help you can give. We all know that hospital bills are not cheap. This is not the update I wanted to do, however we know that he’s in the Lords hands. Thank you for anything that you can donate.
Our good friend Charlie Woodland needs our help. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He has had 2 surgeries, 8 months of chemotherapy, and 30 rounds of radiation. He doesn’t have a single type of cancer, he has lung, pancreatic, esophageal, and stomach cancer. The doctors have given Charlie 3-6 months to live. That’s the bad news.
Now, for the most important part... Charlie is married and has 5 children and two grandchildren. Two of his children are teenagers and they are hurting pretty badly at the moment. Charlie has done such a wonderful job making all of us feel more comfortable with life in general with his belief in Jesus Christ and spreading that love to as many as he can. He would do anything he can for each and everyone of us reading this story now.
So I ask you all now, to reach in to your pockets and give whatever you can to help out our mentor, friend, and our brother. Please let’s help Charlie out with his medical bills as well as any other bills he has. Let’s help Roni his wonderful wife and his children out. Let’s show them that we love him as much as he has loved life and everyone he has met.
I would like to share a little more about his character for those who want to know him a little better.
He served four years in the US Marine Corps. After serving he was hired by Viking Freight. 12 years later Viking was acquired by FedEx and became FedEx Freight. He worked a total of 35 years with FedEx Freight. His favorite time was training new drivers, which is where I met him two and a half decades ago.
As I sat in the tractor, ready to start my first day of training with him, he sat a hard boiled egg on the dash and said, “If that falls off you don’t get to drive here.” My mouth dropped opened as I was starring at the egg... he grabbed the egg, cracked it open for his breakfast while laughing at my surprise. I smiled and said, “It’s going to be fun working with you.”
I was right. Charlie has been a great mentor for so many people.
•He has won 16 State Truck Driving Championships in Arizona, as well as many 2nd and 3rd place showings.
•He has represented Arizona at the National Truck Driving Championships 16 times and won multiple 1st, 2nd and 3rd placements there.
•He has represented the industry in the National Truckers Safety Board, as well as the President’s Safety Team Master Member for working four decades accident and injury free.
He has been an inspiration to ALL that know him and have learned from him. I give my 27 years of safety to him as credit for his great teaching skills as well as his great love for trucking. I know many others credit him for helping them also in this industry as well as life in general.
Thank you for your donation and prayers. We want Charlie and his family to feel our love and the love of the Savior at this difficult time.
My friend, brother and mentor has passed away this morning July 18, 2021. I’m so saddened to know that I won’t see my dear friend Charlie in this life again. However, I’m happy to know that he will have no more pain and that he has returned home to our Father in Heaven and our brother the Lord Jesus Christ.
So this fund has now changed from current medical expenses to funeral expenses. Many of you that donated early on may donate again if you are able to. Thank you all for whatever you are able to do.
Thank you Roni for sharing Charlie with us and know that our hearts are sad with yours today and our prayers are for you and the kids. God bless you Roni and may the Lord’s Spirit be with you and the kids to help your cross this day and in the future days to come be light. We love you all.
