Help Shari beat Breast Cancer!
Donation protected
My sister Shari was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer with Lymph Node involvement in late May 2016. IDC is the most common form of breast cancer. It is a cancer that starts in the milk duct and spreads to other tissue in the breast. Shari has multiple areas of cancer in one breast. Only one spot could be palpated on exam , so the other two were a surprise on ultrasound and mammogram. Her cancer has spread to her Lymph Nodes.
She has decided to stay in Iowa and receive treament at the University of Iowa, as they are a leading medical center for breast cancer. Shari has found a wonderful and trusting team of doctors and because of them , she has a positive outlook on beating cancer!
Shari will be having surgery on July 21,2016 which will include an extensive partial mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, months of radiation therapy and because of the lymph node involvement, most likey chemotherapy. Her surgeron has told her there is a high chance that she will have numbness and lose use of her dominnate arm for up to one year.
Tete, as our family calls her, has a lot emotional support, even through the long distance. Her medical insurance will not cover all her treatment and because of what the next year will be like for her , she will not be able to work. All donations through this page will go directly to her for housing and expenses and hopefully decrease stress about bills. She needs to focus her energy on healing her body. Any help will be very apprecited.
She will be staying at a hotel near the hospital for two weeks after surgery to be close to her doctors to monitor possible complications and have post operative check ups. Donations will also go to pay for this.
Thank you!
Shari knows her life will never be the same...just different.
