Hi, my name is Sandi, and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my sister Andrea who lives out of state. In July, Andrea had a bout of not feeling well. After a couple of days of not getting better, she went to urgent care only to be told they couldn't diagnose her symptoms and referred her to the ER. In the ER, they took her blood. Her hemoglobin came back at a 6, which between 13 and 17 is normal. This led to Andrea getting blood infusions and further having to do a colonoscopy. The results of the colonoscopy weren't what we wanted to hear. Andrea had a large mass, malignant in nature. Large enough where they couldn't finish the procedure. She was diagnosed with colon cancer. Our family carries the Lynch syndrome gene, which is a cancer gene. The oncologist recommended chemo to shrink the mass prior to removal. Little did he know and after further testing, the type of cancer she has, microsatellite instability colon cancer, is resistant to chemo. (Again, not the news we wanted to hear). The next recommendation from the oncologist was to do immunotherapy, of course, pending insurance. We are grateful that insurance did grant it and she has had 2 sessions of that. Once the mass shrinks with this immunotherapy, they will be able to go in and remove the mass then.

As you may be able to imagine, Andrea hasn't been able to work. I created this fundraiser to try and assist her with the overwhelming medical bills and just basic living expenses until she can get back up and on her feet full time.
