Hello Friends,

Many of you have heard about the frightening accident that the little gal who I am blessed to call my best friend had yesterday morning....
Jessica McMahon
had taken out her garbage yesterday morning and was breaking down a box for recycle on the sidewalk.  While doing so, unbeknownst to her, a truck came driving erratically down her street.  She heard a loud crash, was struck from behind, and went flying into her front yard where she hit the ground.  Now this won't surprise anyone who knows Jess, but her first instinct was to get mad and she crawled her traumatized body out into the street to attempt to get a license plate of the person who just HIT her and then DROVE AWAY! Yes, you read that correctly, she was hit, the vehicle slowed, then sped off to leave Jess lying there.  The person responsible clearly does not know Jess's strong will, and tenacity.  She was able to get a visual of the pickup to provide details, but unfortuately not a license plate.  At this time the person who hit her and left her face down in the dirt, has NOT been apprehended.

Jess yelled for help, and her amazing neighbors rushed to her aid.  Providing support, calling 911 and her parents.  She stayed calm, collected, and did stay down and not move after her crawl into the street.  She faced the excrutiating pain she was having in her back, right hip and thigh through sheer grit, and mental toughness. She provided strength to comfort her family who had arrived on scene, even though she was the one injured.  This surprises no one who knows her.  That is Jess.

She was transported to Riverbend Emergency Room where she had a CT done to rule out injury.  REMARKABLY, she had no broken bones, no internal bleeding, or neurological damage.  The doctor told her he did not understand how she was not more seriously injured after being struck by a full size pickup that was estimated by neighbors to be doing at least 35 mph.  Jess stated, "I guess I've used one of my nine lives, at least I have eight more!"  When most would be crippled by the pain of literally being hit by a truck...she finds a way to laugh, and make others smile.  Again, no one is suprised by this.:)

Although she was cleared of any major injuries; she suffered extensive soft tissue injury to her lower back, right hip and thigh.  She literally can not go more then a few feet from bed to the bathroom, and to do even that requires the use of a walker and assistance.  She does attempt to do more on her own then she needs to, naturally, but it is taxing.  It is going to take awhile before she is able to get out and function at even a partial capacity of normal without pain.

What does that mean?  It means she's not able to work.  It means no income.  It means not being able to live her life as she should, because of some heartless jerk who hit her with his truck and drove away so he wouldn't get in trouble.  It means large medical bills from the ambulance ride, the emergency room, the follow up care with her doctor, and physical therapist. It means a HUGE deductible from her insurance, because like most Americans, she was only able to afford the barest insurance premium so that she wouldn't be fined for not having insurance.  It means at this point, she is facing large financial burden without income.  The person responsible for causing this trauma, pain, and financial hardship should be paying for all costs associated to her accident, but they're not.  They're not because they disregarded a life, they chose to leave her, they chose to make a get away instead of seeing what their actions had caused.  Until they are found, and possibly even if they are found....Jess is responsible for these costs.

Jess has given so much, to so many people.  The amount of people she can call friends is amazing, and she knows she's overwhelmingly blessed to be able to do so.  The outpouring of love and prayers she has received is noted, and graciously accepted.  She is so thankful for the support.

I am asking, to all that Jess has touched in life, in whatever way it may have been; horses, rodeo, work, coaching, wine, golfing, and the many activities she enjoys...if you have the ability to donate to this fund to help her out, I, as well as Jess and her family, would be enternally grateful to you.  If you are unable to donate, we understand.  A kind word, prayer, healing thoughts, whatever positive you have, that has it's own healing magic as well....send that too.

Be sure to tell those close how much they mean to you daily....it hits home quick when you see how quickly things can or could have changed.

Thank you,
