Friends Help Jon Parkinson To Heal

Donation protected

On Thursday June 16th the day before his birthday Jon was in a horrific car accident. He had gone off island to pick up a part for his motorcycle so it would be ready to take to Rendezvous in a couple days time. He planned to be off Island for just a few hours and come right back to have a birthday dinner with a friend. On his way back to the Island he was forced off the road by another driver who swerved in front of him into the lane in which he was traveling on 195. He had seen her texting or using her phone by hand. Jon was trying to recover but when his tire hit the soft shoulder he could not regain control and went flying off the highway. He says he just held on and closed his eyes as the car went crashing off the road. The car flipped over landing on the roof, and caught on fire. A man driving on the same road pulled off to go to his aide. He had a fire extinguisher in his vehicle and doused the flames and got Jon out of his seatbelt and pulled him out of the passenger door to safety. Shortly there after the EMT's arrived on the scene. His other saving grace was the car he was driving, loaned by a friend, was a 2015 BMW. They're basically like really pretty roll cages with crumple zones, filled with air bags, that are built to save lives. Also he always wears his seatbelt everywhere all the time, no matter what.
He was taken to the RI Hospital in Providence where they did numerous imaging and determined him to have; a fractured  vertebrae, a fractured rib, a partially collapsed lung with contusions on his other lung, a concussion, very badly hurt left arm, badly hurt right hand and a pretty good sized cut requiring stitches in his chin. He was in the hospital for four and a half days, where the spinal team determined on the last day that he did not need surgery and would be able to heal with a brace and a lot of time.
He is home on the Vineyard slowly and painfully recovering. He has to use a walker any time he is standing and must wear the brace anytime he is not in bed. His movement is extremely restricted, he is unable to bend, twist, clothe himself, or shower on his own at this point in his recovery.
Amazingly his spirits are high, (when he's not in too much pain.) Jon is well aware of how close he came to losing his life and is incredibly grateful now just for each day and for his amazing friends and family who have banded around him in such a beautiful and supportive way.
It's going to be a long time before he can work again. We don't know how long. He will heal from this but it takes a lot of time to heal. Jon and his family humbly ask for your help, we are already feeling the impact of him not being able to work and now there are added expenses and he's quite worried. We've tried to figure what it will take just to pay his bills and buy groceries & some supplemental items, nothing extra. This is just a guesstimate for a six month period of time.
Please donate what ever you feel you can afford as soon as possible, because like many of us he does not have savings. He was unprepared for such a life altering event to occur, and render him unable to support himself. Please help while he restores himself back to this strong healthy man we all admire and love.... Thank you for your support & he urges you all to please wear your seatbelts and wait to text.
