Hawk Fans,
We hope that you are enjoying your summer thus far and would like to share some amazing news with you!
We are very excited to announce that this year's senior class will be attending college in the fall and will be participating in intercollegiate athletics. Last year’s Co-Captain's Jaylee Sanchez and Dionna Lenardo have both signed National letter's of intent to attend and play basketball for their respective Universities.
Jaylee Sanchez will be attending Division II Felician University in Rutherford, NJ and has committed to play for Women's Basketball Coach Steve Fagan. Dionna Lenardo will be attending Division III Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ and will play for Head Coach Rose Haller.
Last year, the Lady Hawks finished their most successful season in program history to date, with a record of 21-4 and advanced to the semis-finals of both the county and state tournaments. We also attended the F.B.C. Holiday Tournament in Binghamton, NY and took home the Championship trophy for the Jennifer Gaeta Division.
With one 1st team All-County selection (Haylee Ramirez), one 2nd team selection (Jaylee Sanchez) and two All-County Honorable Mention players, (Ineysiah Surrell and Zanai Jones) we saw more team and individual success than in years past.
Entering our 10th season since the school went Co-Ed, the Hudson Catholic Girls Basketball Program has emerged as one of the top programs in Hudson County. Returning 4 starters and 4 reserves for the 2018-2019 season, the Hawks are one of the favorites to win the 2019 H.C.I.A.L Championship.
This year’s senior class of (2 year captain and 2-time 1st team All County selection) Haylee Ramirez, (All-County Honorable Mention) Ineysiah Surrell, Lua Fattorusso, and Alexis Nunez provide the necessary varsity leadership and experience our team needs for the upcoming season.
Our junior class, consisting of Anasia Staton, Salma Eddahirri, and Destiny Ramirez will play significant roles in this upcoming season. All three have been with the program since their junior seasons and have had success and experience at the varsity level.
Sophomore standouts Zanai Jones and Jadyn Watson have made a significant impact on the county and state level in only their first season with the Lady Hawks. Zanai's 200 assists were the highest in the state among all players. Watson finished her freshman campaign starting 7 of the teams last 10 games and looks to be a key contributor to the starting five this coming season.
We are very excited about this year's freshman class, as they have the potential to not only be the best freshman class in Hudson County, but the best freshman class in the state. Kayla Beckford (Paterson, NJ), Soraya Ortiz (Teaneck, NJ) Damaris Andrews (Bayonne, NJ) Natalia Goss (Jersey City, NJ) and Trinity Huggins (Jersey City, NJ) make up a very talented group that we are sure will have huge success in their high school careers.
As the season approaches, being a private school, there are many costs associated with running a successful, high level high school basketball program. Next year, we plan on traveling to Washington, D.C. for our season opening tournament as well as participating in 5 other showcase events, all of which come with an entry fee. We have officially begun our annual fundraising efforts with a targeted goal larger than any previous year, because we feel that we should be exposing these young ladies to as many high level experiences and platforms as possible.
Additionally, the cost of yearly team items such as: team shoes, travel suits, travel bags, warm-up shirts, etc. are also costs that we regularly incur and must raise funds for during the year. Altogether, our fundraising goal for the 2018-2019 season is $7,000.
In the current culture and landscape of high school sports, these experiences, resources, and items are all essential in building a solid foundation, positive culture, and sense of team/school pride.
We would like to ask that you support our growing program in the form of a monetary donation to help us meet these goals for next year. With your donation, you will become part of the success of this program and part of all the future success yet to come.
(A portion of all donations are tax deductible*)
Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
