Help Kenny get back on track

Hello friends and family. As some of you are aware, a few weeks ago a gentleman named Kenny Borders wandered into my life. He stopped to ask if he could charge his tiny electric bike. He asked for nothing else. While his bike was charging, I started asking questions. I quickly realised something was very special about Kenny, and his situation was definitely wrong and out of control. Kenny is developmentally disabled, has a severe speech impediment and can’t read or write. And is homeless. He does not drink or do drugs. I decided to get Kenny into a hotel for a week while I tried to figure out his situation.

During the first week, with the help of friends and family and a whole lot of luck, we ended up at Community Services League in Independence, Missouri.Amber Bauer and her magic of networking helped me get to the bottom of the story... It is, by far, the most heartbreaking situation I’ve ever heard of. Here’s the condensed version...
Left his assisted living facility, that he shared with his wife, in April during Covid because he didn’t understand the lockdown situation. This establishment had him sign a waiver stating he can’t return. Kenny can’t read and didn’t fully understand.
From April to the end of August, he was homeless and did not receive any of his social security benefits.
In my second week helping Kenny, his wife Gladys ended up in ICU at Centerpoint fora severe UTI, possible mild stroke.  We were able to get Kenny into visit her. We also moved Kenny into another hotel that CSL was able to pay for to give him another week of shelter. Kenny also had his 60th birthday on September 3.
With his permission, I was able to contact Social Security and get him some of his benefits, that allowed us another week of shelter for Kenny and to keepfighting.
The Covid pandemic has made this 10 times harderto navigate. So many government offices are closedand all inquiries must be done on a computer or over the phone. This is something Kenny cannot possibly do on his own.
I’m raising money to keep Kenny safe in a hotel while we fight to find him a permanent assisted living situation. Ideally with his wife, who is confined to a wheelchair. This is the main goal, but, we will settle for getting Kenny safe for the time being.

Myself, along with my family are happy and willing to provide food and clothing, emotional support, and invest our time to help resolve this situation. What we need is the financial support to keep Kenny off the street while we fight to figure this out. We will not fail him. Too many people have failed both Kenny and his wife over the years. Please help me prevent this from happening again.
