Hello Family and Friends,

We are dedicating this campaign to our beloved, beautiful niece Alondra Chavez, who tragically passed away on Tuesday, June 28. Alondra suffered a heat stroke on Sunday, June 19 while she was on a hike with her family in Julian, CA. Alondra, a sweet 15-year-old girl, loved to hike, draw/paint and spend time with her family and friends on her free time. Alondra; her mother Lupe; her aunt Kika; her siblings Saul, Sandra, and twin Gaby, went to Julian to appreciate the waterfalls at Three Sister Falls.

The group went down to the waterfalls, but unfortunately on their way back from the falls, Alondra started getting really exhausted. Both of the twins had to be carried back up from the hike due to fainting from the heat. Gaby and Alondra were emergency life-flighted from the Three Sister Falls hike to the hospital. Gaby was sent to Children’s Hospital, but Alondra suffered more severe injuries from the hike. She suffered a heat stroke and had complications that needed immediate attention and more tests at UCSD Medical Center: Burn Unit. She suffered second degree burns, experienced brain swelling, and her vital organs were failing.

The following Monday, we received good news that her lungs and vital organs were starting to show improvements. She was taken off life support, because she was starting to breathe on her own and her kidneys were responding. The family and UCSD’s doctors were all hopeful about her progress; however, on Sunday night, her health started to decline. On Monday, doctors informed us that Alondra no longer was breathing on her own and was experiencing complications. Alondra fought a brave, tough battle to regain her health, but sadly passed on Tuesday night, surrounded by her closest family and friends.

We are all mourning the sudden, tragic death of Alondra, who had such a bright future ahead of her. She recently had her Quincieñera with her twin sister Gaby, both turning 15, on January 7, 2016. She had just finished her first year as a freshman at San Pasqual High School. As her aunt, writing this message on behalf of all of our family, we cannot express how heartbroken we are thinking about the potential Alondra had. She had a beautiful life ahead of her, her goals and dreams of becoming a great artist were unfinished. She always had a love for nature, the ocean and painting. All who knew Alondra would describe her as a loving, caring person, who had a big heart and who was also a surprisingly big eater :). She always had a unique smile, a sweet, fun-loving, innocent smile that would brighten up everyone’s day. All of us have a different memory within our heart about Alondra which will carry on for the rest of our lives. This was one of the most unexpected losses in our family and her beautiful, young soul will live on forever.

We would like to briefly thank everyone in advance, and thank everyone who came to support her during her time in the hospital. Your love and prayers mean the world to us and we are so thankful for everyone’s support.
