Help Mel with their gender transition
Donation protected
UPDATE: So my goal was reached in about 18 hours which is amazing, huge thanks to everyone! Any extra donations will help pay for more treatment over a longer period of time, so please keep sharing and donating where you can!
As of July 2021 I will have been waiting for 5 years for my first appointment at an NHS gender identity clinic, and I’ve had enough of waiting.
I’ve been living en-femme since Autumn 2017 after internally batting with my gender identity since my late teens. Socially transitioning (ie ‘coming out’) has almost been enough for me to survive, but as the 5 year mark approaches it’s becoming ever clearer that I’m still horrifically uncomfortable in my own skin, I’m also not getting any younger and the longer I wait to begin a physical transition, the longer I have to stay in a body that physically lets me down.
The career I have and the money I earn allows me to live - more or less - the lifestyle that I enjoy, which as you should all know is as a musician. But this is an expensive hobby. I’ve weighed up my finances a lot the past few months to see if ‘going private’ was affordable for me, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d essentially have to give up music to afford my transition, which isn’t something I could do, I would be entirely lost without it.
So, I’m asking for your help. £3000 will roughly pay for all the set up fees and consultations I need as well as at least the first couple of years of hormone treatment. I’m not planning on having any surgery, having access to hormones will be enough (I hope!) to make my physicality closer to something that represents my gender.
If you’re in a position to donate (even the price of a coffee) I would be forever indebted to you. I have a small pool of talents that I’m willing to offer in return - helping with music production, music lessons, teaching you what I know about cooking or laying down some killer riffs on your musical project - I want to give something back. Even just sharing this gofundme if you can’t afford to donate will help massively.
Having access to this medical intervention will be a huge positive thing for me, over half of my life has now been spent battling the dysphoria within me and I’m forever astounded that it hasn’t killed me yet.
Thanks for reading this far, and thank you eternally if you’re able to contribute.
