Hi there, my name is Scott, I’m a 27 year old trans man 3 years into my transition. I’ve been working with a surgeon, my health clinic and insurance in preparation for hopefully getting my top surgery this year, but there has been last minute changes to what my insurance would cover.
When I first had my consultation my insurance covered all related and necessary procedures related to my top surgery— now they don’t. While they will cover the actual breast removal, they will not cover the skin and fat removal that does need to be done in my case because of my breast size and excess fat around my chest, nor will they cover the nipple graft.
I’ve been told by the clinic that a fee of $2,000 will be due 2 weeks prior to my surgery date, which I have not set yet, to cover what my insurance will not.
The extra $500 is to cover bills for the month I will have to take off work, because my job working with dogs is physically demanding. Covid has cut my client list by over half, and with my income so inconsistent the idea of having to take a month off work is terrifying.
I truly, deeply appreciate any and all help you can offer. This is the closest I’ve been to getting what I genuinely consider a life saving procedure for me and I really cannot imagine having to call it off.
