A call to for help was put out for a badly injured neighborhood feral who appeared to be bleeding profusely from an infected head wound. My rescue that specializes in special needs and senior kitties jumoed in immediately. The elderly woman wasn't sure if he had been hit by a car, attacked by a large animal, or what but knew time was of the essence. It took some patience but once Baby Boy was trapped, he was rushed to the vet to assess the severity of his injuries and direness of the situation. The pictures are gruesome and hard to look at for any animal lover even after being cleaned up to check the damage. The Vet is treating him for a bad infection of his head. He most likely had an abcess that ruptured just before trapping. We are unsure even now if he was hit by a car, has chemical burns, attacked by a larger animal, or was shot with a BB gun but it is clear he was in multiple cat fights and bears the scars of a hard life. Once the vet insured he was stable, he was neutered and tested for feline leukemia and FIV; he is shockingly negative on both. Baby Boy is believed to be 3-5 years old but has a long road toward recovery ahead of him. He remains at the vet as his wounds are debrided to help healthy tissue grow. We are unsure at this time just how feral he is but he is just happy to be safe. Considering his injuries he is being quite cooperative and very appreciative. He's.a toughie. We are hoping we can raise some money towards his care. He will be at the hospital for quite a bit longer. This sweet baby deserves a loving home after his difficult life thus far. He will be a special needs kitty due to the injuries.
The neighborhood has reached out to spay and neuter the rest of the colony as well.
