For those of you who don’t know on March 24, 2021, I unexpectedly had two seizures related to my pregnancy.
All I remember of that moment was my hand shaking back and forth uncontrollably, feeling my head arch back, and the world suddenly going black at 6 am. The next thing I remember is Hayden, my husband, talking next to my ear asking if I could hear the baby’s cries after experiencing an emergency cesarean section. It was 9:05 am. The pregnancy was abruptly over and our sweet baby, Charlotte, was here 5 weeks and 1 day early.
Hayden and I have been so excited to start our family! We’ve done everything we could think of to be independent and prepared, but this has caught us completely off guard and particularly financially overwhelmed.
Charlotte is incredibly strong. Despite her tiny size, 4 pounds at birth, she is breathing room air and has not needed oxygen, miraculously. She is still too little to nurse effectively so she is connected to a feeding tube. We need to have her stay in the intensive care unit to give her time to gain weight, learn to eat on her own, and stay hydrated. The staff are incredible! Hayden and I are so grateful for the care and attention to detail given to both Charlotte and I in this life-changing and critical transition into family life.
This is our sweet little one!
We know that despite our best intentions and preparations we are up against a financial struggle to cover the costs of the impending medical expenses and the loss of time working for both of us. It’s hard to ask for help—especially financially—but we are overwhelmed by the unexpected nature of this emergency and are asking for help from anyone who may feel inspired to contribute financially to our new, incredibly grateful family.
