Help Nana’s Elbow Surgery & Recovery

Hi everyone, earlier this week Nana suffered a traumatic accident at the skatepark - another skater (who was much larger than she is) collided with her, which resulted in her breaking her elbow.  The part of her elbow that broke is very important, and she needs to have elbow surgery immediately in order to properly heal.

Nana and I are currently in the process of getting her green card, and because of this she is unable to get medical insurance.  We have been making phone calls nonstop, and applied to see if she could be covered under my insurance due to our situation.  However, the surgery needs to happen now and the hospital gave us two options - wait to see if she is covered (they told us it was unfortunately very unlikely that she would be covered), or pay for it upfront and take a 40% discount.  After countless phone calls and consultations, we decided to take the discount on the surgery rather than risk paying almost twice as much.  We also considered flying her back to Korea for the surgery, but due to our position in the green card process she would be unable to return to the US and we would have to start the entire process all over again.  It has all been very unfortunate timing.

Everyone who knows Nana already knows that she is the sweetest and kindest soul out there - she is always extremely positive, and constantly thinking of ways to surprise and cheer up everyone around her.  It has been heartbreaking to see her go through all of this, and she has a long and painful road ahead of her to recovery.  We appreciate each and every one of you who took the time to read this, and hope you’ll consider helping a truly wonderful person get through this tough and unexpected challenge.  Thank you.
