Queer Pakistani international student cut off
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I am a 23 year old international student from Pakistan studying at the university of Waterloo. I have just finished my third year of university and only have two more semesters left to graduate. However, around the start of COVID, I was outed by a distant family member to my conservative Muslim family in Pakistan and it has just been a series of fights and arguments ever since then. My parents have tried to threaten me to drop out, called me all sorts of nasty things and have finally decided to stop funding my education if I ‘don’t change my ways I and move back’. Moving back is definitely NOT an option for me. Pakistan has already been an unsafe country for me as a woman and surviving as a queer woman is an additional pressure that I absolutely can NOT handle at this stage. For my last semester of third year, I was luckily able to work through the co-op program a my school and make enough money to just get me by but I am unable to make the same amount with my current co-op job due to COVID. It is still dangerous for me to reveal my identity but I am willing to connect with anyone who needs confirmation in order to share. I just need enough to get by my last year of school and I have exhausted my options of grants and scholarships that are offered to international students.
If you are unable to help, I would also appreciate if I were connected to any organization that could help me out too. Thank you sooo much!
