Elva Mason's Cancer Treatment Fund.
This is Elva's family reaching out to ask for help. This is not an easy thing to do. For those of you who know Elva, she is most often the one to give rather than receive.
As some of you may know, and some of you may not, our Mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.
She had her initial surgery on June 29th and we are still currently waithing on the pathology reports before a course of treatment will be decided by the surgeon/oncologist.
We do know that there will be a minimum of 5-6 weeks of radiation treatments for which she will be required to travel to Victoria, about 3hrs away from where she currently lives. Mom will have to stay at the Cancer Lodge in Victoria from Mon-Fri during the course of these treatments and will be able to come home on the weekends. As you can imagine, this comes at great expense. We would also be so grateful if it were possible for one of her family members to be able to accompany her for moral support and a shoulder to lean on when she needs it.
She applied through the Cancer agency to cover the cost of her stay at the Cancer Lodge but was denied coverage due to her income being $1000 a year over the allowance limit. Believe me, that limit is set to the poverty level. Mom is a pensioner, on a pensioners income, and yet she still didn't qualify.
Anyone who knows Elva will attest to the fact that this is a woman who gives her heart and soul to being a positive influence and reaching out to others in need. If you were hungry, she would be the first one to feed you. If you were cold, she would be the first one to give you the shirt off her back. A large part of her life has been spent "giving back".
The medical costs looming ahead are pretty overwhelming. We are hoping that this time we can band together and do everything in our power to ease this burden for her. The funds raised will all go directly to medical/transportation costs.
With an uncertain timeframe and possible further treatments, we struggled to determine a dollar amount. Any monies that are not used for these purposes when treatments end, will be donated to someone in a similar situation.
We can't begin to thank you enough and any amount you are able to give is hugely appreciated.
We will continue to post updates throughout Elvas journey and ask that everyone please send positive thoughts and prayers for this amazing woman.
