OUR STORY

Tri-State Actors Theater , a non-profit professional theater, has been dedicated to providing quality live theater in Sussex County, NJ for the past 28 years. Our goal is to present entertaining professional productions of plays, including readings and productions of new works, for our regional community; to encourage and train young people who want to participate in the theater as actors, designers, and technicians; and to encourage and propagate a theater-going public who are knowledgeable and appreciative of theater and its uniqueness as a live art form.

Over the years we have performed at local schools, at The Garris Center in Branchville, NJ; we restored the historic Crescent Theater in Sussex, NJ and called it home for almost 10 years. From 2010-2014 Tri-State was the resident professional theater at Sussex County Community College, Newton, NJ. After leaving SCCC we found ourselves without a theater, but continued creating professional productions.  We presented A CHRISTMAS CAROL in 2014 at The Bickford Theatre, Morristown (a fellow member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, the organization for professional theaters in New Jersey.) Last spring we staged our production of CLARENCE DARROW in an art gallery at The SpringBoard Shoppes, Newton, and in the summer, we produced our intern program and family musical, I BELIEVE IN MAKE BELIEVE in a warehouse in Sparta, NJ.

After two seasons without our own theater, we were offered performance space in the former Morley Shirt Factory, a large old building recently renovated to house The Franklin Health and Wellness Center, and local non-profits by Dr. Jean-Paul Bonnet, a practicing doctor and arts patron. We are now in the process of creating a new 65 seat theater in our new space, from walls to stage, with lighting, sound, dressing rooms, workshop, storage and more.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

We need your help in creating our new theater in Franklin, NJ. Producing theater (especially when you’re building from scratch) is a huge undertaking and is not possible without the support of our friends and community. We at Tri-State have mastered making the most out of very little, recycling set pieces, costumes and props. But we need your help in creating our new theater and producing TARRADIDDLE TRAVELS this summer, and our traditional holiday presentation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL in December.

Only a small percentage of any theater company’s income is achieved through ticket sales. In order for a theater company to flourish and remain financially stable, it relies on the donations from private donors, grants, corporate sponsors, fundraising efforts and volunteers. This means that we have to rely on our community and others for support.

We need your Tax-Deductible Donation and support to help us cover all the building and production costs including:

*Performance Rights and Music
*Costumes, Props and Sets
*Lighting and Sound
*Promotion and Advertising
*Professional Actors, support of our Intern  Program, *Stage Managers, Light and Sound Technicians

We are committed to giving our actors, interns and audiences a professional theater experience. Every dollar raised will go toward production costs for TARRADIDDLE TRAVELS and A CHRISTMAS CAROL. With your help, this season will be a year of new growth and opportunity for Tri-State Actors Theater, while maintaining the high quality for which we are known.

THE IMPACT

Our project affects the towns and communities of Sussex County, NJ, surrounding counties, and reaches neighboring areas in Pike County, PA and Orange County, NY and especially YOU! Our project is so valuable to our funders in:

*Keeping Tri-State Actors Theater alive and producing fine plays
*Creating jobs
*Providing an inviting environment that induces creativity and learning
*Presenting a variety of productions and supporting our theater classes and new play readings
*Educating and training young people who will become appreciative of theater and its uniqueness as a form of “live” presentation

The training-by-doing approach we take with our young actors and technicians serves to create a pool of trained and talented “home-grown” artists who will eventually become the core of a large and healthy regional theater movement in our own backyard.

What happens if we don’t reach our goal?

We keep Going! We will do our best to raise funds through individuals and businesses locally. The funds we do raise will go towards securing our most important needs and theater projects this season.
