I'm truly honored and excited to be an at-large delegate for Bernie Sanders and heading to Philadelphia continue the fight for his social justice agenda at the Democratic National Convention in one month! Now comes the sober reality of needing to raise funds to cover the incredibly exhorbitant travel costs (primarily hotel) the delegates face in order to effectively represent our fellow Berniecrats at the DNC...
After attending Bernie's first Los Angeles rally last summer, I knew ai would have to join the effort to help him get elected as our next president. In October I hosted my first Bernie tabling event and by November I committed myself wholeheartedly to the campaign, by volunteering with others, leading a Bernie group, donating, flyering, phone banking, out of state canvassing, marching, voter registration, hosting canvass events, and more. Exhausting work but so rewarding! And all along the way I've met the most kind, generous, intelligent and caring people ever in my fellow Berners.
When I didn't finish in the top slots at my district caucus on May 1st, I didn't hold out much hope for becoming a delegate, but decided I had to be in Philly for the many marches, protests and other events that are scheduled. I joked that even if I had to start early and scooter all the way there to save costs, I was going to be there for Bernie, and I felt it important to stand against the tyranny that has been visited upon the American people during this election, on behalf of the millions who would like to be there but can't for a variety of reasons. However, paying out of pocket, I envisioned it being a much less expensive journey: traveling by carpool, bus or train, sharing a discount motel or camping a distance away, and eating low cost meals. Now it's over $1200 for 1/3 of a hotel room alone, plus travel, food and delegate events. So I really do need some help!
I'm hoping to get support from those who recognize how hard I've worked for Bernie and want to contribute so that I can continue to fight for Bernie at the DNC. I am asking for the minimum amount projected and I'm super frugal; funds raised that exceed the actual expenditure required for my trip will be shared with another delegate who needs the financial help OR to a progressive candidate running in the upcoming general election. I will greatly appreciate any amount donated. Thank You!!!
