This fundraiser was created on behalf of Carolyn, Patrick & family.
A few months back we started noticing a change in my right breast and with guidance I was encouraged to get it checked out. Upon my first visit I was told it was most likely an infection (Mastitis) and antibiotics would do it. After finishing the antibiotics, we didn't notice much change so further tests were put in order. When those test results came in MORE tests were in order. I mean in the past month I've felt like a lab rat. Poked, pinched, biopsies, ultrasounds and worry.
At first my new amazing surgeon thought it was IBC (inflametory breast cancer) which scared the heck out of all of us. So I had a same day surgery that week to remove a good portion of my tissue to run pathology tests. Yesterday I got the news that, thank God, it wasn't IBC but I do I have widespread ductal carcinoma in situ. Which means I have cancer in the ducts of my breast throughout. So I am looking at a mastectomy and after my MRI, I will meet with my new oncologist and get a game plan.
It has been a rough time of processing for myself, Patrick and our families... but I have the most amazing medical team on my side and a crazy amount of support coming in from every angle.
Update:
Patrick and I met with my Oncologist for the first time today and we love him. He gives me all the good vibes and I immediately felt like I could trust him. He confirmed that I do not have Inflammatory Breast Cancer after seeing the MRI, biopsies and the skin himself. I am in stage 1 high grade ductile carcinoma in situ. (DCIS) I have it all over the right side but the MRI and an ultrasound this morning confirmed my left side is normal. So it is official that a mastectomy will take place in the next month or so once we receive gene testing results and get a full game plan with both the surgeon and plastic surgeon.
So while I still do have a bumby road ahead of me I am still grateful for the good news.
Asking for help isn’t easy, but Carolyn and her family need it at this time. Even with good insurance, the cost of Carolyn’s current care has already started to get overwhelming. If you are able to support in any capacity in their time of need it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
