Support a Family's Recovery from House Fire
Donation protected
You always think, “it won’t happen to me/us”, until it does. Our house caught on fire around midnight Monday going into Tuesday. Luckily our son woke everyone up and we were all able to get out of the house.
We did lose some of our pets which has been tough, but we also lost pretty much everything inside, including both sets of my car keys. Everything else is a loss due to smoke and soot. We are waiting to hear from our insurance adjuster whether we will demolish the house or if we are going to try to save it. This will determine where we even begin to look at staying for the next 6-8 months.
We are very thankful to the fire department and emergency response that responded so quickly.
We are thankful to our neighbor around the corner who gave our cats oxygen.
We are thankful for our neighbors who without thought or question have taken in our family of 5 and our pets, including a kitten that were bottle feeding. They have cooked for us, bought us clothes, let us shower, given us their own clothes to wear, and reaching out to their friends and family for help. We wouldn’t be handling this situation as well as we are without them.
We are thankful to the community, complete strangers, aquantinces, parents of students who I’ve taught, and my work family who have really helped with getting us some essentials, monetary help, and other things we need.
While this is devastating, and extremely difficult, especially with a newborn and James starting school soon and a new school year starting for me, we know we will make it through it and are thankful for everyone who has helped and/or reached out to us in this difficult time.
