Many of you know our dear friend and Proud Larrys kitchen manager Benny Booker. Benny started as a grill cook at Proud Larrys in 2013.
The last few years, his days as our kitchen manager begin at 5am, when he meets the delivery truck to stock the groceries he ordered. Benny also preps the red sauce, alfredo, meatballs, chicken for pastas and salads, and all of the pizza dough. That killer Larrys bread we serve with salads and pasta, he makes that too! Benny does his job and lives life with undeniable enthusiasm and joy. He maintains a positive attitude though the most difficult situations.
During the recent ice storm, Benny became concerned when he lost sensation in his left foot. Seeking medical assistance, he found out he had lost circulation in his leg, due to multiple blood clots. After a string of surgeries (Four in two week period), he was released from the hospital with his left leg amputated above the knee.
The Proud Larrys family is happy to announce that our beloved kitchen leader is out of the hospital and on his way to recovery. While that would be a devastating series of events for most of us, Benny has maintained his cheerful outlook and expressed his happiness in just being able to survive the ordeal. This has always been Benny's outlook and is one of the many reasons that he is supported so strongly by all who have known him.
Now, Benny is left with the prospect of moving forward with his life utilizing an above knee prosthetic. The cost of the prosthetic, along with the rehab and physical therapy to re-teach Benny to walk, will be expensive (somewhere in the $25,000-$50,000 range), not to mention being out of work for months.
With this GoFundMe, we are setting up an opportunity for everyone that Benny has enriched over the years to contribute to his arduous journey. Many people have reached out to us asking to contribute in some way, and we are happy to set this GoFundMe up on his behalf. We hope that we will meet the goal sooner rather than later and that Benny can see how much he means to our community. A small amount or a large one, every contribution is very much appreciated. We thank you, in advance, for all of your generosity in this moment.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
With love and sincere appreciation,
Scott, Lisa, Bruce and The Entire Proud Larry Family
