My dear friend Nicky lost her mom last night. Nicky is a third year History PhD student working on the history of the Redwood State and National Parks, and she is a dedicated and kind scholar and educator. Her family lived on a fixed income. She works harder than anyone I know, and always makes herself available to support others. In the time that I have known her, she has shown up for me in innumerable ways, and I know everyone in her life feels the same. Now she needs our help.

She needs to be able to say goodbye to her mother with dignity, and funeral costs are going to start at $7000. We are asking Nicky's friends, family, and community to help alleviate this financial burden. Nicky will be meeting with the funeral director this coming Tuesday, and we want to be able to have this covered for her by then.
