Hope for Nicholas

Addiction is a terrible thing not only for the person experiencing it but for the people close to the addict. I know this first hand as my oldest son is addicted to heroine. As a mother it is heartbreaking to watch your child transform into something you don’t recognize both in the physical sense as well as mentally and emotionally. I have spent much of the last several years trying to help him. This very difficult road led me to a point where the only thing that I could do to help him was to stop. Yes, stop, stop helping him, stop giving him money, stop listening to his lies and stop having a relationship with him. This was gut wrenching, I was filled with fear, guilt and anxiety but I knew that anything I tried to do was simply enabling him to continue down this destructive path, and if he was ever going to find his way out it would have to be on his own. 

Nicholas reached out to me one night. He told me he wanted to get help for his addiction, he didn’t want to live the way he had been. So our journey began. The following day we drove him to detox, 10 days later he went to rehab, which is where he is currently. He is committed to his recovery and has decided to go to a long term facility following rehab. I am committed to helping him reach his goals of sobriety but I need help. Substance abuse programs are expensive and I am nearing the end of my financial means to continue paying for his treatment program without outside help. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
