Need Help Kicking Cancer's Butt!!
Donation protected
On 3/12/21 our wonderful cousin, Cheryl Delk, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) Breast Cancer. Cheryl has a long fight ahead of her, but with your generous donations she plans on kicking cancer’s butt!
She is hilarious, fun, kind, outgoing, adventurous and an overall beautiful person inside and out. She’s an incredibly hard-working boss lady, and an amazing mother, sister, cousin, daughter, aunt and friend who lives in upstate New York. She has 2 beautiful children - Ryan (24) who resides in California and Kayla (19) who is currently a college student.
Cheryl’s words on the day she found out about her diagnosis:
“My world has come crashing down. My number one concern is my babies, how will they cope and why should they have to be subject to a very sick mom. They are just starting to live their life. For anyone that knows me knows that Ryan and Kayla are my world. This is no burden for any child to have to endure. My hope is that by some small miracle I will overcome this horrible disease that has taken so many and for no good reason. I am usually a very strong and courageous person and have taken on more obstacles than the average person. Right now, I am not strong, I am very weak, I’m angry, pissed off, lost, financially screwed! I’m alone, lonely, feel as though I am living in an out-of-body experience, and not sure what the inevitable holds. What I can tell you is....that I am not a quitter, I will eventually find peace and I will find every ounce of fight that I have to fight this. I will rise above and face this head on. I have too much to live for! My kids need their mom, and I refuse to go anywhere anytime soon!
People often hear this news about a family member or a friend and don’t know what to say or how to react to the person who has been diagnosed... If you are going to send me private messages asking if you can help, for the first time in my life I will tell you yes. Whether it is moral support or financial support I will tell you yes. Is that easy for me to say? No, it is not. It’s degrading and humiliating but at this point in my life when I need it the most, I will take you up on it. Having the burden of Cancer alone is life changing. Being alone and having the weight of financial burdens... worse.
I am strong, resilient, and courageous but right now I am alone and weak.”
Cheryl is a hard worker who never imagined her new job as a retail manager would also add to her worries. Within hours of learning of her diagnosis she was threatened to be terminated for alleged “strategic reasons.” She has no sick days or paid time off accrued. In addition, her new employer has informed Cheryl that she does not qualify for disability. With her job in jeopardy, partial health insurance, no disability, no savings, no home equity, no retirement plan, this GoFundMe page is her only financial chance to fight this and the horrible consequences it brings.
This is what we know so far:
- Cheryl has Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) Breast Cancer
- A mastectomy surgery is scheduled in May 2021 but more exploration is planned prior to the surgery to make sure the cancer has not spread further. Another 6-8 hours of reconstruction surgery is needed and scheduled to be the same day as her mastectomy. As of 3/17/21 there are at least 5 doctors & 3 specialists involved and more expected.
- The hospital stay is expected to be 5-7 very expensive days. Cheryl will be unable to work with no disability or other known income for a minimum of 6-8 weeks.
- Cheryl has only partial health insurance & the remaining bills will be out of pocket and unaffordable.
- She is likely facing imminent unemployment or, at the very least, limited wages due to her illness.
Cheryl was beginning to see light at the end of the financial tunnel when she was hit with the terrible news. With an extremely limited support system, daunting medical expenses and with severely limited income facing her, Cheryl’s world feels like it is falling apart. The bills have already begun and will be due soon. Anyone who knows Cheryl will tell you she can kick cancer’s butt with your help.
