In May of 2020 Team Holmes got the worst news possible. In an already unsettling and troubling time as the pandemic was spreading globally, after being taken to hospital Graham, Chantelle and their three young kids were told that Gray had terminal lung cancer and given a 1 to 2 years life expectancy. The cancer is inoperable due to it metastasising and spreading to his ribs, spine and brain.
Since that original diagnosis Gray and Chantelle have had their wedding vows blessed and spent as much time as possible together with the kids making the very best of the time they have left together. They have laughed, cried and everything in between to try and deal with the diagnosis given. One thing that has not and will not waiver through their immense heart ache is the love they have for each other, their kids and their friends and family.
Since Grays diagnosis was given people have asked them if there is anything that they can do to help and they will always be given the same answer of no or I don’t know. This is either through pride or not knowing how to ask for help or wanting to ask for help. So I will.
Whether you know my brother and sister, niece and nephews or not, I urge you to donate. It may not be much but it could be the difference between a day at home or a day making an unforgettable memory. A day sat inside or a day in the garden enjoying the weather. So I beg you because I know they won’t ask, please give anything you can.
My brother and sister don’t want a house, a car or a holiday. They just need a little help to make the very most of the time they have left without having to worry or miss things because finances won’t allow.
For anyone in the Armed Forces who has served with Graham. This man is your brother, he stood with you in Kosovo, the Falklands and in Afghan. When you needed something and you went to him he made it happen, he made it better and he asked for nothing. He made you smile with his contagious humour and sat and listened when you needed a friend. Now him and his family need you. I ask you now not only to donate, but to blow this up and share this story.
