Help David Cheek with medical expenses
David Cheek is a 16 year old sophomore that attends Waxahachie High School and currently plays for the Waxahachie Indians baseball team. David’s Dad, also named David, was the one who introduced him to baseball at an early age and both fell in love and had a connection to baseball right from the start! Tragically, David’s dad lost his life in 2019 after a life long struggle with addiction. David decided to move in with his Grandmother in Waxahachie after his fathers passing.
David and the rest of the Waxahachie Indians were gearing up for the season to start by getting a couple scrimmages under their belts. Unfortunately, in the first scrimmage, David was hit by a line drive directly to his eye while he was pitching. As you can imagine, that did ALOT of damage to his eye!
David is scheduled to have multiple surgeries throughout the next couple of months to try and gain vision back in his eye and corrected any broken bones in his face.
Davids FIRST surgery will be to repair his ocular floor fracture which has entrapped eye muscle which is limiting the movement of his eye. This will occur in the next few weeks. Expected cost for this surgery ALONE is $15,000-$20,000, not to mention future surgeries and rehab. Total cost could very well exceed $50,000 when it’s all said and done.
“Dr. Jorge Corona is concerned David has optic nerve damage as well. During his exam Dr Corona found a lesion on his macula. So we will be doing a retinal specialist as well. I am disabled due to a long time retinal disease I have myself (grandmother).
We will see an ophthalmologist again on 3/26 to determine if a second surgery will be required to correct muscle damage.
So there is a lot going on right now. “ - David’s Grandmother
David’s Grandmother unfortunately DOES NOT have insurance on David since she does not have full custody of him yet... Grandmother is in the process of trying to figure out anything and everything to help pay for these surgeries OUT OF POCKET. She has began the process for Medicaid, as well as other avenues to offset the cost of surgeries.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! $1, $5, $100 LITERALLY ANYTHING WOULD HELP THIS FAMILY OUT TREMENDOUSLY!
Please consider donating to this family in this time of need! Our goal is not to get David back on the baseball field as fast as possible. Our main and only goal is to get David’s eye corrected, get his vision back, and make a full recovery so he can live a normal life from here on out! This kid has been through more downs than ups in his short 16 years on this earth, he deserves some help!
Any questions about the situation please feel free to contact me or David’s grandmother! My cell is [phone redacted]. Please reach out to me directly if you would like to personally send David and his Grandmother something other than a cash donation in this time of need! Thanks so much everyone!
